K&A’s Picture taking Philosophy

Travel makes you better. You get better at travel with practice. Practice can occur anywhere and everywhere.

I love taking pictures and K can attest to the fact that I’m constantly snapping pics. Despite my love of pictures, the pictures on the site are the first ones I have shared online. Picture taking is an excellent way to relive your wonderful travel experiences and god knows we have had to rely heavily on our past travel pictures during COVID. That being said, picture taking can be a double-edge sword. Too often the desire for a “perfect” photo ruins the opportunity to be present for a once in a lifetime experience. Our best advice about pictures, is to take them for you and no one else. It seems simple but, in this day and age, I think it is rare. Some of our favorite pics are blurry, silly and/or we look ridiculous. Despite all of that, they immediately elicit so many positive emotions. The photo actually manages to capture the authenticity of the moment.

My wife and I will see a photo from our travels and we are able to relive the experience through all of our senses. We can taste the food, feel the warmth of the sun or coolness of the rain and remember the fun stories happening around us in that moment. We each remember various parts of the moment and it leads to a wonderful travel memory in the middle of our living room. This is a big reason we travel and why we see travel as a state of mind.

Travel Photos should elicit positive emotions and take you on a journey. Travel pictures shouldn’t elicit memories of how long it took to get the shot, how it still isn’t perfect, and it didn’t get as many likes as you thought it should, etc etc etc. Our pictures won’t be perfect or super staged or super edited but they will be fun and full of life. All the pictures you see on this site were proudly taken by us.

Technology is great but it has its place and it takes constant effort to both define its place and to keep it in its place. I promise it is worth the effort!
